Privacy Notice
What we do with what you tell us.
People contact LawFiq about some of the most private matters in their lives. This notice explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and what you can ask of us. It describes this website as it actually works today, and it will be updated if that changes.
Privacy notice
Who we are
LAWFIQ LTD, trading as LawFiq, is the data controller for the personal information described here. We are registered in England and Wales under company number 17408508, and our registered office is Conductor, 8 Westfield Avenue, London E20 1NW. Questions about this notice, or about your information, can be sent to info@lawfiq.com.
What we collect, and why
We collect only what we need to respond to you and, if you go on to instruct us, to advise you.
- Consultation requests
- Your name, email address and phone number; your preferred language, the topic you need help with, how you would like us to contact you and whether a voicemail is safe; and, if you choose to give them, a preferred date and time and a short description. We use these to arrange and prepare for your consultation, and to contact you in the way you asked.
- Email and telephone
- Whatever you choose to tell us when you write or call, and the details needed to reply. We use these to respond to you and to carry out any work you ask us to do.
- Using this website
- This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising tracking. Like almost all websites, it is served by a hosting provider whose systems may keep standard technical logs, such as the address a request came from and the page requested, for security and reliability. We do not use those logs to identify visitors.
- Language preference
- A single setting, stored in your own browser, remembering whether you read the site in English or Arabic. It never leaves your device. See cookies and local storage.
Our legal basis for handling enquiry details is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us and, where you go on to instruct us, the steps needed to enter into and perform our agreement with you.
Sensitive information
Because of what LawFiq does, a message to us may reveal your religion, your family circumstances, your health, or other matters the law treats as especially sensitive. Please share only what you are comfortable with; the details can wait for the conversation. We treat such information with particular care, use it only to respond to you and to advise you, and never for any other purpose.
We rely on your explicit consent to handle this kind of information. The consultation form asks for it, and you can withdraw it at any time by emailing info@lawfiq.com; we will then stop using the information, unless another legal condition applies.
How the consultation form works
When you press the button, your answers are sent over this website’s encrypted connection to the server that hosts the website, which checks them and immediately emails them to info@lawfiq.com. Your enquiry is also kept in a private record on the website’s hosting, which only signed-in LawFiq team members can open, so that we can track our reply; it is deleted 12 months after the matter is closed. Once the email reaches us, it is kept in LawFiq’s email system like any other message.
To protect the form from automated misuse, the server keeps, for up to one hour, a scrambled form of the network address each request came from, so that repeated submissions can be limited; the address itself is not stored.
Who sees your information
- The LawFiq team members who need it to respond to you and to advise you.
- Our partner SRA-regulated law firm, only where regulated legal services are required and you have agreed to that work going ahead.
- Service providers that host our email and this website. They act on our instructions and may not use your information for their own purposes.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for marketing. We would disclose information if the law required us to. Where a provider stores information outside the United Kingdom, UK data-protection law requires appropriate safeguards, and we apply them.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only for as long as we need it for the purpose you gave it to us. The record of your enquiry held on the website is deleted 12 months after the matter is closed. Emails are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry. Where you become a client, records are kept for the period our professional and legal obligations require.
Keeping it safe
Access to your information is limited to the people who need it. This website is served over an encrypted connection. Email, however, is not a perfectly secure medium, and no system can be guaranteed against every risk. If you would rather not put sensitive details in writing, call us and tell us in conversation instead.
Your rights
UK data-protection law gives you rights over your information. You can ask us:
- for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- to delete information, where there is no good reason for us to keep it;
- to restrict how we use it, or to object to our using it, in certain circumstances;
- for a copy of information you gave us in a form you can take elsewhere.
To exercise any of these, email info@lawfiq.com. We may need to confirm your identity first. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would ask you to raise it with us first, so that we can try to put it right.
Cookies and local storage
This website sets no cookies of any kind. It uses no analytics, no advertising tracking, no marketing cookies, and no embedded content from other companies. Fonts and images are served from our own site.
It stores one item in your browser’s local storage: a setting named lawfiq:lang, which records whether you last read the site in English or Arabic, so that the front page can send you to the right language next time. It is written when you use the language switch or open a page in either language, it contains nothing else, and it never leaves your device. You can remove it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for lawfiq.com. Because it does no more than remember a choice you made, no consent banner is shown. If that ever changes, this notice will change first.
Children
This website and our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Where a family matter concerns a child, the information comes to us from the adults involved.
Changes to this notice
We review this notice when the way we work changes, and show the date of the last review at the top. Questions can be sent to info@lawfiq.com.
