What LawFiq is

LawFiq is the trading name of LAWFIQ LTD, a UK advisory company based in London. We advise Muslim families and business owners on how Islamic principles and English law apply to their situation, and we plan and coordinate what needs to happen. Our team brings together Islamic scholarship, academic expertise in Islamic law, mediation and practical advisory experience.

What LawFiq is not

Not a firm of solicitors. LawFiq is not itself regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, and not every member of the team is a solicitor.
Not a financial adviser. We do not recommend financial products, promote investment opportunities, introduce investors or arrange investments. Activities of that kind are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and belong with an FCA-authorised firm.
Not a tax adviser. We coordinate with your accountant where tax matters.
Not a religious court, and not a regulator of any body, institution or community.
Not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999.

Advisory work and regulated legal services

Much of what our clients need is advisory: understanding where they stand in both frameworks, deciding what to do, and having it planned and coordinated. Some of it is regulated legal work, which only a regulated firm may carry out. Where regulated legal services are required, these are provided by our partner SRA-regulated law firm. Where that is the case we say so, and that work is carried out by the partner firm under its own professional obligations.

Syed Ali Zakir, LawFiq’s Consultant Solicitor, is an SRA-regulated solicitor. That is his own professional status: it does not make LawFiq a law firm, and regulated legal services remain those provided by our partner SRA-regulated law firm.

Mediation

LawFiq’s mediation practice is led by Owais Qarni, an Accredited Mediator. A mediator manages the process and remains neutral; they do not give either party legal advice, do not decide who is right, and do not issue a religious ruling. Mediation is voluntary and confidential, subject to narrow exceptions the law allows. A mediated agreement becomes binding only when it is recorded in the right form. Islamic scholarship

LawFiq’s Islamic Board and Academic Board provide guidance on what Islamic principles ask in a given situation. That guidance is scholarly: it explains the principle and its application, and following it is a matter of each person’s own conscience. It is not legal advice, and it does not bind anyone who has not sought it. Where a question turns on the formal requirements of a particular institution, standard or forum, tell us early so that we can say what is and is not within our advisory work.

Education and Insights

Our seminars, workshops, training and Insights pages explain general principles. They describe the law of England and Wales as it stood when they were prepared or last reviewed, and Islamic principles as understood by our scholars. They are not advice on any particular situation, and attending a session or reading a page does not make you a client. We make no claim to CPD accreditation and issue no certificates unless a programme expressly says so.

No guaranteed outcome

No adviser can promise how a court, a counterparty, a regulator or a family member will act. We do not guarantee outcomes. What we commit to is care, candour, and a clear explanation of where you stand in both frameworks, including where they cannot be fully reconciled.

When to obtain independent legal advice

There are moments when you should take independent legal advice from a regulated lawyer, whether through our partner firm or one of your own choosing:

before signing any document with legal effect, including a will, a contract, a partnership agreement or a settlement;
when court proceedings exist or are likely, or a legal deadline is running;
when the matter requires regulated legal work;
when interests within a family or a business diverge, so that each person can consider separate advice;
when a question turns on the law of another country, which needs a lawyer qualified there.

If something has gone wrong, or you are unhappy with how we have dealt with you, tell us. Email info@lawfiq.com or write to the address below, and we will look into it and reply. Concerns about regulated legal work carried out by our partner firm are handled under that firm’s own complaints procedure, and we will point you to it.
